The Indian equities ended lower on Tuesday, paring early gains, tracking mixed cues from Asian peers, as gains in oil&gas and realty stocks were offset by losses across IT and Teck space. However, the Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was positive. On BSE out of total shares traded 3020, shares advanced were 1803, while 1042 shares declined and 175 were unchanged. Among the thirteen sectoral indices, IT and Teck stocks emerged as top losers on BSE, falling as much as 1.56 per cent and 1.06 per cent, respectively. Among the individual stocks, Tata Consultancy Services plunged 5 per cent on the BSE after the promoter Tata Sons sold nearly 1.5 per cent stake in the IT bellwether through block deals.
The 30-share benchmark index closed at 33856.78, down by 61.16 points or by 0.18 per cent, while the NSE Nifty ended at 10426.85, up by 5.45 points or by 0.05 per cent.
Bucking the trend, the broader markets ended at strong note, with MIDCAP and SMLCAP indices rising as much as 1 per cent and 1.14 per cent, respectively.
During the day’s trade, the Sensex touched intraday high of 34077.32 and intraday low of 33722.96, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10478.6 and intraday low of 10377.85.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2892.45,-5.22%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1084.55,-1.46%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 294.75,-1.02%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 169.40,-0.94%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 8753.50,-0.66%), among others.
On the flip side, Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 530.80,+2.23%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 522.90,+2.04%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 295.55,+1.65%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2181.40,+1.60%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 425.90,+1.22%), were among top gainers on BSE.
